Make sure that you use the most recent version of your web browser; then you should be able to open a OneDrive document in your locally installed Word. On Windows 7, use Internet Explorer 11 if you want to use a web browser from Microsoft. If it fails, try Firefox instead.

I'm actually not opening anything from OneDrive - it's a document uploaded as a Word document on a website. Here's the website for your reference: http://poconoponieslive.weebly.com/entry.html

All of the Word doc links open as Word Online. I use the newest version of Google Chrome, not a fan of IE.

On the machine where opening the Word documents fail, are you sure that the Office installation is working properly? Perhaps WordPad (installed with Windows) is opening the documents instead?

Yes, Office works fine. It's just opening from the web for some reason. If I open the same document from my USB stick, it opens in Word 2007. But if I download it from the website it opens in Word Online.

It sounds very strange. A downloaded document shouldn't be able to open in Word online, because Word online isn't installed locally.

Could you post a screen shot of what you actually see when this happens.
