Just had some issues with MS Word and paid a computer tech to fix it which it was... sort of.

When I open MS Word 2003 I automatically get 10 pt Courier. I can't remember the last time I used courier, if ever. I can change it but whenever I open it, it's always the same font.

And there's a 2nd page that appears with a few dozen small box-characters. There's also a word there, that I think I typed. Again, I can delete it, but next time I open Word, it's got that font and 2nd page.



Any suggestions as to how I can get it back to normal are greatly appreciated.

The problem has been caused by someone making changes to Word's 'Normal.dot' template. Neither repairing nor reinstalling Word will fix this.

All you need to do is to:
1. go to Tools|Options|File Locations,
2. note where your 'User Templates' are stored
3. close Word
4. use Windows Explorer to navigate to the folder where the 'User Templates' are stored
5. delete the file named 'Normal.dot'
6. re-start Word.

thanks for the tip, but I'm finding something else. All of my programs with text incl Word and others all have become smaller. Even my email is smaller font. Can't be a virus, but it started when I was attempting to get larger icons in my desktop and played with the screen fonts there.

That suggests you've made a combination of screen resolution/icon size and dpi changes to your system. Without knowing exactly which attributes you changed, and how, correcting it is going to be a matter of trial and error. Ultimately, it's an Operating System issue, not a Word issue.

Yep, you're right, I've tried every combination but can't seem to figure it out, got my tech coming over for another reason so I'll get him to fix it. Thanks.
