Default AutoText for MS Word for OSX

Hi there,

I'm making a proposal and throughout the document I have the address of the particular client I am pitching, I have names and proposal numbers that I would like to automatically change throughout the document when I change them at the beginning of the proposal.

I've seen some youtube videos talking about "Quickparts" to accomplish this, but Mac doesn't have this feature as far as I know.

Does anyone know what steps I should take?

Thanks in advance!

I don't work with the Mac version and only have a vague idea of its capabilities, but it should be possible to use bookmarks and cross references, and/or docvariables and their associated fields.

The most elegant solution would be a userform in your template http://www.gmayor.com/Userform.htm is aimed at the PC, but the principles should be the same for the Mac version.

Otherwise, you could probably use a StyleRef Field to copy information from first use. The UserForm suggested by Graham Mayor is more sophisticated, though, and less likely to have problems once you have it set up.

Hi guys. Thank you very much for your suggestions. I did research on all methods suggested above and I can't quite seem to figure it out. The userform would be a great option but it's a little too complex for a newbie.

StyleRef Field looks like it may be able to solve my problem but I can't figure it out for Mac.

If someone can give me a brief walkthrough of how to approach that, that would be great!

fwiw, I've turned up a posting in a Mac forum that refers to Word 2011 and says Insert>>Field>>StyleRef>>{style name}

Hi guys, I will haven't been able to figure this out.

I have my "client name" and "client address" on the front page of my proposal and both appear again throughout the document.

When I change the front page client name and address, I'd like it to change throughout the entire document, while preserving formatting.

Any other ideas? Thanks!

I did yes. I read the link above and I failed to see how I can implement this in my situation. Granted I'm quite green when it comes to this stuff so maybe I missed something.

For example, my bookmarked text for the "client name" at the beginning of the document is size 16 and bolded, etc, and when I want that name to repeat in the document at a normal size 11, unbolded, (using a cross reference to a bookmark) it's replaced with the large size 16 and bolded text.

Any ideas on how to accomplish this in a better way would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried the STYLEREF field, as Charles suggested? I'm assuming here that STYLEREF is supported even in MacWord.

I tried to make it work with STYLEREF, but could not quite figure it out. And information seems to be pretty scarce on the intricacies of STYLEREF.

I've given you two good references on the STYLEREF field. Suzanne Barnhill says that the field is surprisingly well documented and I have to agree. Here is the official MS page.
When used in a header or footer, this field implements in real time. If you change the text in the reference style, the field updates as you make the change. When used within the body of a document, you still need to update the field in some way.

As for the REF field, make sure you do not have a MERGEFORMAT switch in your field. If anything, you would want a CHARFORMAT switch.
