So i finally got it to work on a basic level. I used bookmarks and cross-references. This solution is not ideal because it does not automatically update in real time and he formatting always reverts to that of the original bookmark.

For example, my bookmarked text for the "client name" at the beginning of the document is size 16 and bolded, etc, and when I want that name to repeat in the document at a normal size 11, unbolded, (using a cross reference to a bookmark) it's replaced with the large size 16 and bolded text.

Any ideas on how to accomplish this in a better way would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried the STYLEREF field, as Charles suggested? I'm assuming here that STYLEREF is supported even in MacWord.

I tried to make it work with STYLEREF, but could not quite figure it out. And information seems to be pretty scarce on the intricacies of STYLEREF.
