in word2007, right click, I have way too many recent files.


i want to delete them all as I rarely use that feature for accessing my files.

i have tried below suggestions but that does not work

Start the 2007 Office program.

1. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Program_name Options.
2. In the left pane, click Advanced.
3. Under Display, type 0 in the Show this number of Recent Documents box.
4. Click OK.

I changed my recent documents from 17 to zero and clicked OK.
i even did a restart to see if that made a difference.


not a huge deal but frustrating that I am not successful with this simple procedure.


hope someone can help.
once i get word fixed then i can work on excel and mayb powerpoint which i assume is generally the same logic.

What you are trying to do should work. After you have set the number of recent documents to zero and restart Word, is the number zero or has it reverted back to 17?

ah ha....yes the ones are deleted when i open word.
it is when i right click on word that all the recents are still showing.
maybe there is no way to delete these.

That sounds like the Windows feature rather than a Word feature.

yes the video helpful and gave me more insight into the file locations.

however, i still had the same problem with when i right clicked of word or excel it showed the recent files. most would enjoy this feature but i found it annoying.

yea....finally figured it out.....
when going into customize properties and the recent items box, near the bottom it asks how many recent you want to keep and how many jump lists...that is the KEY
i clicked "0" for jump lists and it cleared all up.
