I followed JimP's link, which solved the problem. This is how i used to do it in Word 2000 (from an earlier century). However, when one goes the Insert\Page Number route and selects the placement of the page number, one passes by the formatting option, and I did not think to go back to that drop-down menu to access same.

Why did you leave 2000? ;-)

Actually, 2000 was easier to use (for me). However, I write a lot of text with photos, etc., and when I would get too many on a page, the photos would start "moving" on me. Therefore, I assumed that by 2010 Microsoft would have fixed this. Needless to say, they had not. Some of the editing additions (e.g., the placement of lines et al) to an inserted picture are a little more precise in 2010 -- other than that....Word is Word!
