Thanks. That's another simple solution I didn't think of. My problem is that I'm so used to having maximized windows that it bugs me to narrow them. But that's a pilot error problem, not a Word problem. :-)

Could you clarify this part of your post? I'm not sure what you mean:

"Word 2013 still has the line associated with the tab and the margin setting from the ruler?"
