Hello I'm trying to write this symbol (฿) in Microsoft Word. It's a currency symbol which represents the Panamanian Balboa according to the Royal Spanish Academy. I had to copy it from a website to be able to post it in this new thread.
I think word does not have this symbol in its list of symbols but this character appears as currency not just for my country (Panama) but there's another country in Asia that uses this symbol as well. Does anyone know if this symbol is on the list or if there is a keyboard shortcut to write it with? If it is not on the list then, would it be possible to create my own symbol "฿" along with my own keyboard shortcut for it? I was thinking of using something like ctrl + altgr + | + B or something. Is this even possible anyway? Thank you all for your time reading my inquiry. |

That symbol (฿) looks the same as the Thai Bhat. If you go to Insert|Symbol, set the font to Normal text, and input 0E3F into the 'Character code' box with the 'Unicode hex' option, you should be able to see it. If that's what you want, choose 'Shortcut Key' and assign one. You can also set an Autocorrect option.
Of course, if you can remember it, you can always create one via 0E3F,Alt-x.

I tried typing in 0E3F and what I got instead was an "ã" and not "฿." By the way, I'm using MS Word 2003. Can't I add a new symbol to the list then? I didn't understand how you create a symbol with alt-x. Could you explain further please? I'm not a programmer expert. Thank you. |

It seems Word 2003's symbols dialogue doesn't support the extended characters. What it actually processes when you input 0E3F is 00E3, which is why you get ã. I don't believe you can add the new symbol to the sumbols dialogue. However, typing the 0E3F,Alt-x keystroke combo should still input a ฿ (as Word 2003 creates this using the 'Angsana New' font, you'd need to have that installed too - and I'm not sure whether that is available for Word 2003). This isn't programming, per se; it's simply making use of a facility Word provides for inserting special characters from the keyboard.
