It seems Word 2003's symbols dialogue doesn't support the extended characters. What it actually processes when you input 0E3F is 00E3, which is why you get ã. I don't believe you can add the new symbol to the sumbols dialogue. However, typing the 0E3F,Alt-x keystroke combo should still input a ฿ (as Word 2003 creates this using the 'Angsana New' font, you'd need to have that installed too - and I'm not sure whether that is available for Word 2003). This isn't programming, per se; it's simply making use of a facility Word provides for inserting special characters from the keyboard.
