Dear experts,
I have a problem of a word document. The Table of Content page number does not align with the actual page number. Attached document has toc as follows: Table of Content 3 User Requirements 3.1.3-1 3.1 User Requirements 1 3.1.3-1 3.1.3 User Requirement a 3.1.3-1 3.2 User Requirements 2 3.1.3-1 <--- should be 3.2.3-1 3.2.3 User Requirements b 3.2.3-1 When you scroll document to the 3.2 User Requirements 2 section. The Page number at the footer is correct, but the toc is not correct. Please Help ![]() |

I got the result you want by deleting the next page section break and changing the formatting of your heading paragraph to be page break before.
I wasn't sure why you had a section break but I added a continuous break back in before the heading. If you look, you'll see that the next page section break is actually a part of the following paragraph and that is probably the point at which the page number is determined in the TOC. |

oh, thanks, but not the section 3.2 User Requirements 2 .... 3.1.3-2 still the same problem.
The page number 3.1.3-2 should be 3.2.3-1. please help. |

Sorry. Thought I had it fixed. I note that if I insert a page number just before 3.2.1 the page number shows as 3.1.3-2. Inserting the same page number just after the 3.2.1 heading gives 3.2.3-2. This is the same number as is shown at the bottom of the page.
I suspect the problem is what changes the second level number. You currently have your Chapter number changing at Heading 3. See also http://word.mvps.org/faqs/numbering/chapternumber.htm According to that article I was wrong with my advice to not use the next page Section break. The author knows far more about this than I do. This thread is a parallel thread to http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/o...a5a10be1#_self In looking at the style definitions, I see that the steps outlined in http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/numbering20072010.html were not followed. I suspect that if you did follow those steps this would be working. I will try tomorrow to duplicate your heading styles using those steps and see what happens. ---- addendum. I tried that and it didn't help. I will try recreating your document recreating the page number formatting and see if that is of any help. Will post results in parallel thread. Sleeping first. Please see my findings in the parallel post. Bottom line conclusion is to have the Chapter set in the page number definition at the same Heading level used to restart numbering.
