I have a multipage document which is set up with a footer using
different first page different odd and even pages I set it up using the page numbering Page x of Y command and have also change the Y in the footer to the section page field code. It all works fine until I save and reopen the document. At that point the first page footer view as Page 1 of 1 even though there are multipages and should view as i.e. Page 1 of 3. If I click into the footer is automatically views correctly i.e. Page 1 or 3 and stays that way until you save the document again. The weird part is that if I would print the document without clicking into the first page footer it still prints out correct. Seems to only be a viewing problem. All of this used to work fine in Word 2007 and just seem to have the problem when working in Word 2010. Any help is appreciated. |

Hi
Unfortunately just providing a copy of your document does not really help. This is because when you send a document to someone it will use the recipients template to display the document. If there are styles in the senders document that are not contained in the recipients template then the recipients template will use the closest match. Hope this makes sense. Getting to your actual issue, this may be down to how the page numbering is set up in your template and without seeing your template it is difficult to see what is happening. What you could try is the following. First open your document then: 1. Select File. 2. Select Options. 3. Select Display. 4. Tick the box Update fields before printing. Sometimes Word will not display updated field codes until you actually print the document, following the above may resolve your issues as I cannot recreate your issue on my version of Office 2010. Good luck. Tony(OTPM) |

I tried the suggestion and it didn't solve the problem. The document still reverts back to page 1 of 1 when you reopen the document.
This morning I created a new blank document using normal styles. I added an even, odd footer options and it viewed and printed fine. Once I added "Different First Page" option, it immediately viewed Page 1 of 1 instead of Page 1 of 3. If the document is printed, it will print Page 1 of 3 and if I save it as a PDF it also views Page 1 of 3 on the pdf. I can also just click into the first page footer and it will start viewing as Page 1 of 3. It appears to only be a Word 2010 viewing problem once you save the document and reopen it. We are currently working on documents created in 2007 which worked and view correct, but start the behavior once we open them in 2010. Ideas?? |

Hi
Based on your last post this sounds like a bug in Office 2010. Logging a bug in Office is like trying to climb Mount Everest in flip-flops. I have tried logging a bug recently and have failed miserably. Sorry I cant help further. Tony (OTPM) |
