I tried it before posting and confirmed it works - when done properly.
You have not inserted a FILENAME field as instructed.

Here's the simplest way to show the problem.
1 Create PDF a file named "[.PDF" 2 Create an adjacent .DOC 3 Open the DOC 4 Press CTRL+K and select the PDF, click OK 5 Do CTRL+click on the link 6 See "Cannot open the specified file." Step 4 shows
