Default Word 2003 loses text upon paste into table column

I create a 1 column 2 row table and into the first column paste:

Code:
2021-01-21
2021-01-21
I get:

Each line truncated at "-"! Owch.

I cannot imagine what Word is thinking here.

Anyone know a workaround? Short of manually pasting lines one-by-one.

EDIT: I now find this is variable. It may depend on the clipboard source. Hope for a workaround...
