Is that because you have "justify" CTRL J as the horizontal space setting ?
Try using Align Left CTRL L instead |

I wanted justified, without extra spaces between words.

I am sorry but I am really not understanding you.
"Justified" means that each complete line fills the width of the page, with spacing between the words to achieve that. Inmco, plete lines finsish wherever they finsh, with blank space to the end of their line eg at the end of a paragraph. That's what your second example looks like. Is that what you want ? How does that compare with what you are actually getting ? Where are the "extra spaces" appearing ? |

Make sure that the paragraphs in the document begin and end where you want them, because the last line in a paragraph, terminated with Enter, won't be justified. To get a clear view of this, work with nonprinting marks displayed. Click the ¶ icon on the Home tab. Paragraph marks will be represented by pilcrows, ¶.
Also, to ensure that the spaces between words are more consistent in justified text, you may have to enable hyphenation in Word. On the Layout tab, click Hyphenation and choose an option, such as Automatic.

I will try to explain I copied and pasted the text and I got this "arrangement", with justified text with extra spaces to cover the length of the row ![]() then I wrote the text by myself, same font and size, and it appears like that, where top row is stretched, while the second arrives to the "." ![]() |

If a paragraph ends with a manual line break (represented by a bent arrow with nonprinting marks displayed), you will see extra spaces between words. It seems you noticed this yourself. The fix is to avoid ending a "paragraph" with line breaks.
