I am using index tags throughout my Word document, then having Word generate the index.
Unfortunately, Word is inserting words beginning with the "þ" character in the middle of the words beginning with "t". The "þ" words should all come after the "t" words. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Word is correctly alphabetizing all the hundreds of other index entries. ![]() |

Answer located! The key is to use semicolons to override the sort order. What follows the semicolon is where Word would place the entry as if it were in that position.
So to make a word starting in "þ" sort in the index as if it were to begin with "tz", I use: { XE "Þórisfóstri;tz:Þóri's foster-son" } Last edited by val_org@hotmail.com; 05-23-2025 at 03:00 PM. |

Thank you for letting us know.
For future reference, here is a link to Microsoft's documentation on the XE field. XE (Index Entry) Field The detail about the semicolon is not included. |
