Post-reboot, neither Word2007 nor Word2010 will run now...they both freeze at the splash screen. Both are being blocked by the anti-malware as 'exploits'. It never did That before. You're correct that over the years there have been several different versions of MSOffice on this desktop. I've had it a long time and it has always done what needed doing. This has gotten so messed up now that I'm just going to run a 'backup' and uninstall/reinstall and cross my fingers that I don't lose any files in the process.
