How to change the selection highlight color in Word?

It has nothing at all to do with the Design tab. That only applies colour to your document. The selected text highlight colour comes from the OS settings, not Office.

I tried experimenting with Windows theme colors, but nothing changed. I even tested the high-contrast theme and attempted to modify the selected text color (it was the only place where I could find a direct option to change it), but still, nothing changed. Do you have any procedures that could help me change this color?

Unfortunately, no. Without knowing what you've done it is difficult to help.
