I have a large table which spans across 2 pages. The table has a footnote.
By default, Word will place the footnote either at the end of text or page. Which in both cases would be on the second page. Is there a way to have the footnote on both pages? |

If it's not over 255 characters, you could put the footnote in the footer, and that would put it on both pages.

I'm curious. Where are you getting a 255 character limitation for the footer?

Oops, Charles, you're absolutely right -- I was thinking of what happens in Excel, where I have had the experience of exceeding either the header or footer character limit.

Thanks but that wouldn't work for me as the document already has the footer populated for something else. I am attaching an mock example. I would be nice if the footnote was duplicated on both pages. With the line as well. |

Also is there are way to edit the footnotes that instead of e.g. 1,2,3 they would display as [1],[2],[3] in bold?

The [1], [2], [3] issue would be best addressed in a separate question to get the best answers. I believe this has been asked and answered in the past.
You cannot get a footnote to repeat on two pages as a footnote. You could add a couple of cross-references to the footnote, one to the number and one to the text after your table. |

Yes, I will post separately. Thanks. Quote:
I think I found a workaround based on your suggestion. 1) I go to Draft view and copy the separator and place it to a desired location. 2) Cross-reference formatted Footnote 3) How do I cross-reference the text? |

Sorry, you'll need to actually insert a bookmark for the text.
The number is formatted in the Footnote Reference style; the text is formatted in the Footnote Text style. The cross-reference fields will not update automatically, but they can be updated. Here is a temporary link to a document with this set up. |
