Default Quickest Way To Zero Formatting?

I have a pdf document which I opened in Word so that I could work on it.

Word made a word document of it for me, very good.
Then I enabled editing. All good so far.

When I start editing I saw a " (ii) " at the end of a line where it should have been down on a new para. I got in there and did an "Enter" and that shifted it down out of the way.

Then I started writing in next to the first of these items at (i)

And I found my writing can only go about an inch across the page. Like it seems as though it's all restrained to a column or a table field or something.

So it has got too clever for me.

I really don't have the time to master this enough to cope with this one and any other such 'bugs' that come up while I"m working through this process - editing pdf's via Word.

So it would really help me I think if I could swiftly simply remove all such hidden formatting. Just leave the new paragraphs and end of line.

Can that be done?

And if not what next best speedy resolution could I use?

I would try
Select All = Ctrl-A
Cut = Ctrl-X
Edit Paste Special > Text only

Thank you. Sounds good to me. I will give it a try on the next one.

Converted documents are always more difficult to edit than those produced directly in Word. It is often best to copy and then paste as plain text. Then do the editing in Word using styles to apply formatting.

What Charles said.

Actually, using paste as plain text is a pretty good approach even when going from Word doc to Word doc. I'm currently updating a large multi-chapter user manual, updating as well as applying a new layout. The older files are a stylistic nightmare.

I start with a chapter template, and then paste as plain text section by section; that way I don't have to worry about style artifacts from the older documents getting into the updated files.
