Hello
For some strange reason Word has started to display existing documents with 2 pages per screen (if there are more than 1 page and 1 page on the left if only 1 page). I wonder if something on the internet has changed this as I am sure I never changed it (or could it be a document I downloaded which changed the settings without my knowledge). How do I change Word to display 1 page only on the screen and full or nearly full screen as well. I have tried settings in the VIEW tab without success. I have Word 2010 (yes an old version I know but why pay for updates you don't need). Thanks |

In the 'View' tab do you have 'Side to Side' selected? If so then try 'Vertical' instead.
As regards the "full or nearly full screen" that is the zoom factor. Assuming you are using a mouse with wheel hold the Ctrl key down whilst scrolling the mouse wheel backwards and forwards to change the zoom factor. |

You do have a Side by Side option showing in the View tab, however, this only becomes active if you have more than one document open – not pages. It allows you to view (compare) documents at the same time (on screen).
![]() If you have a document open with more than one page, not the one in your image that only has one: ![]() . . . . . try clicking the One Page option in the View tab for a comparison. |

@Moonshine - 'Side by Side' works even if only one document with multiple pages is open. 'Vertical' shows only one page at a time. See: -

Apologies for the confusion, the OPs image doesn't have the Side by Side option and I was referring to the 'View' Side by Side' which refers to documents for comparison.
I should have been more clearer. Edit - added info: Word 2010 doesn't have the Side by Side option in the View tab as OP stated. ![]() |

The OP's original post stated "I have tried settings in the VIEW tab without success." This tells me the "One Page" and "Two pages" buttons aren't working on his machine. Is this correct jparnold ?

You can also use one of Jay Freedman's SaveView utilities.
The Macro Zone - Jay Freedman, MVP These should not be needed in Word 2010, but there is no reason why they would not work. I use SaveViewMultiLoc. |

For future reference, you can use a scroll wheel on a mouse with the Ctrl key pressed to zoom in & out. You may find this useful at times.

Hello again
How do I then set 'preferences' so that no matter what document I open it will always be displayed as (say) FULL PAGE. I am setting this with a document open but then when I open it again later it reverts back to the old display method. Thanks |

Have you tried using the Zoom Slider at the bottom right corner or in the View tab, the 100% tab or the Zoom tab for more options including a finer zoom option to change to your preferred zoom percentage?
Note the setting in my example is remembered without having to make a save. You could however, with an existing document open, zoom to your reqd percentage, then make an edit (remove a letter as an example, retype the letter and make a save). ![]() |

Thanks Moonshine. That works bit it would appear that I will have to do that with every document which I open and doesn't have my preferred zoom level? I was hoping there was a preference setting for all documents. I have no idea how this got changed which happened in the last 1 or 2 weeks (I don't use Word often).
Thanks |
