May all being well,
I have a document with 5 chapters (by using section break feature), in addition to appendixes. For 5 chapters, I included chapter numbers in caption numbering like 1.1, 2.4,...etc For appendixes which located at the last of the document, I have additional images and tables and I don't want to include chapter numbers in caption numbering, I mean regular numbering like 1, 2, 3 ... etc So, is this feature possible in Word? |

Yes, it is possible. It can be a bit tricky to implement if you are using Insert>Caption as Word has a habit of taking the settings in that dialog and applying it across all of the other captions at the same time.
If you reveal toggle field codes you can see how each field is coded. In your chapters, there will be two fields along the lines of Table {styleref 1 \s}-{Seq Table \s 1} In your Appendix you need a single field Table {Seq Table \r 1} - to restart the numbering for that Seq field Table {Seq Table} - thereafter to continue the numbering You can edit field codes directly and press F9 to update them.

Mr. Andrew, your method works fine, and just for your information This method must be used when you finished your document completely, because if you then insert just a single table or figure in the appendixes and captioning it, it will restore the original (default) caption numbering (including chapter numbering) to include chapter numbers for all captions in the appendixes, which then require further modification of field codes, and this may be annoying. Thank you again Best wishes laith |

Creating a separate caption sequence is the important thing here, as Andrew pointed out.

Good idea, but I'm not allowed to use a double table of figures or tables in my document (Thesis standard) BTW, thank you. |

Thanks for the follow-up. Andrew explained how you can manually restart a single sequence. Remember that those restarts may be messed up if you later add more captions via References > Insert Caption, because Word may try to enforce a sequential numbering scheme.

However, I will follow the method of Mr. Andrew, but when I completely finish the editing of my document, and there are no further figures or tables to be added to my document. Thank you again |

There are other ways to add captions or, more specifically, you can add the underlying field code (SEQ) for the caption number by other means, for example via an AutoText entry.
