Mr. Andrew, your method works fine, and just for your information
This method must be used when you finished your document completely, because if you then insert just a single table or figure in the appendixes and captioning it, it will restore the original (default) caption numbering (including chapter numbering) to include chapter numbers for all captions in the appendixes, which then require further modification of field codes, and this may be annoying.
