Default Multiple Multi-Level Lists in Same Document

Using Word 2010 (A company choice; not mine)
Wouldn't it be great if you could apply a multi-level list style to each section?
...without doing any tricks

Example Outline:
TOC with all headings {1., 1.1, 1., 2.1, 2.1.1, Appendix A, A.1, A.1.1, A.2, A.2.1, Appendix B, B.1, B.1.1, B.2, and B.2.1} with corresponding page numbers below.
TOF with all Figure Captions {1-1, 2-1, A-1, and B-1} with corresponding page numbers below.
TOT with all Table Captions {1-1, 2-1, A-1, and B-1} with corresponding page numbers below.
1 Heading 1 (page 1) [Multi-level list style 1]
1.1 Heading 2 (page 1)
Figure 1-1 (page 1)
Table 1-1 (page 1)
2 Heading 1 (page 2)
2.1 Heading 2 (page 2)
2.1.1 Heading 3 (page 3)
Figure 2-1 (page 3)
Table 2-1 (page 3)
====section break next page==== {Restart Page #; include chapter}
Appendix A (page A-1) [Multi-level list style 2]
A.1(page A-1)
A.1.1(page A-1)
A.2(page A-2)
A.2.1(page A-2)
Figure A-1 (page A-2)
Table A-1 (page A-2)
====section break next page==== {Restart Page #; include chapter}
Appendix B (page B-1) [Multi-level list style 2 continued]
B.1(page B-1)
B.1.1(page B-1)
B.2(page B-2)
B.2.1(page B-2)
Figure B-1 (page B-2)

Table B-1 (page B-2)

And your question is?

If you follow the guidance of Shauna Kelly in the following pages you will have exactly what is wanted. No tricks, except changing the TOC styles for the Appendix headings.
Nothing wrong with Word 2010. I prefer it for many purposes.

Maybe this is the wrong forum to bring this up....
...My point is why doesn't Microsoft provide an integrated solution that allows Appendices?!?

I have tried Shauna Kelly's work around and it is just that a workaround; not a solution to a problem that has been talked about for more than a decade now.

Nothing is wrong with Word 2010; unless you want to implement a Multi-list with an Appendix that does not require an intimate knowledge of MS Word multi-level lists, caption Labeling and don't want to implement cross-referencing or common TOCs.

Using (say) Headings 7--9 for the appendixes is a workaround, of course, but unless you need the "magical" properties of the built-in headings, you don't have to make use of the workaround.

To post feedback for Microsoft, go to the Uservoice forum at http://word.uservoice.com.

Thank You....Another excellent suggestion that I have tried as well. The problem as you have pointed out is the "magical" properties of built-in headings such as Chapter Number that play an important roll in captioning and page numbering.

I have been using MS Word for since it was born and this is one area that one would think that Microsoft would have found an elegant solution for by now.

I apologize for the rant but after authoring thousands of documents and answering this same question at work over and over again, seeing the same suggestions online I was hoping someone from Microsoft would chime in and say "Hey, we do listen"

I'm afraid that Microsoft never replies with a confirmation when you send feedback through their official channels. But since they are a commercial business, they will listen if sufficiently many people support a certain suggestion.

UserVoice Word for Windows

I suspect there are major programming problems to modifying the automatic numbering setup in Word when tied to styles. When it is not tied to styles, it is a loose cannon.
