Default Embedding Text

Hey y'all newbie here.

I have MS Word 2010 and want to know how to embed text, pictures, etc, so it can not be edited by anyone else except me? Similar to template I think? Actually the one I found has a form and you can not highlight text or edit only the form fields?

What I want to do is create a form with fields and check boxes for the user to fill in only. I also want to add my logo so embeds into the word doc. I have seen this before so I jumped on youtube but could only find how to do a form in MS Word.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

There are two ways to do this.

The most common method is to restrict the document for forms by going to the Developer Tab and choosing Restrict Editing > Editing restrictions (Filling in forms). The side effect of this method is that the user can't apply formatting or paste graphics into Rich Text CCs. If the form doesn't have any rich text CCs then this is the preferred method.

What do you mean you want to embed your logo? Insert > Pictures or Copy Paste both provide ways of getting a graphic into your document. Or are you asking how to insert a watermark behind every page.

Ah yes thank you my friend, that is exactly what I want to do. I do not want the user to add formatting or pictures in the form, so would I use Restrict Editing, right? I added it to MS Word so play around with it to get use to it.

I just had another look at the word doc form that I am duplicating and noticed the Logo and all the text can not be edited or deleted? Only the form field is the only way to add text with a background color to highlight text on the go. So that's what I want to achieve. If it is watermark then how to add it?

For years I only use MS Word for writing but now I am learning how to add forms, etc. I just added a footer with a page number woohoo!

P.S Which reminds I need a header with my logo at the top and a footer with a page number. So I've done the footer but will add the header once I know how to embed logo and restrict it.

By default any time you put a logo into the document it is 'embedded' - ie. stored in the document itself and doesn't link back to an external file. Also once you have put the logo into the document, it will be protected from selection and deletion whenever the document is restricted for form edits (unless you have put the logo inside a Content Control).

Yes, I finally got the hang of it now. Interesting, although I protect/restrict editing one thing I noticed is, it can still be highlighted? Which means I can still copy and paste the highlighted area compared to the form I am duplicating it does not highlight at all? I am almost there and would appreciate if I can learn how to restrict highlighting any area of text or pic?

P.S. is it better to build a form with tables or without it? I am seeing different ways of doing it?

Thanks again

Mate, I managed to finish it all but I am still waiting on how to restrict from highlighting text or graphic?

Surely there is an expert here who would know? The reason why I signed up

What is it? In my document, if I turn on protection, the only thing I can select is the contents of a Content Control. I can't select content in the file that is not contained in a content control.

Perhaps you need to post a link to your document so we can see what you are doing? It is hard to explain your problem unless we know what your problem is.

One important caveat: If someone can see your document, they can copy it. All you are doing with any Word protection is making copying more difficult. Like most house keys, it helps keep honest people honest.

If the restriction is for Filling in Forms, all that can be selected is formfield contents and content control contents. If you restrict it to "No Changes - with exceptions" other parts which cannot be edited can still be selected (highlighted in your terms) and copied.

Filling in Forms protection has its own set of problems.

OK I think I know what the problem is. I was looking at the logo and realized something. It is possible the logo was created and used as a font mixed with a picture font lol? When I highlight my logo created in png format, I can see the scale/transform outline and it can be scaled or copied to a new document. However, as for the other form, the logo can not be scale or copied exactly the same as the text.

Mind you this is first time using content restriction and very happy to use it. I tried to 'stop protection' on the other form and since I don't know the password it will hard to remove.

Cool! This has been a good experience for me now that I know how to create a form and style it the way I want it as well as adding a content restriction.

Thanks again guys
