Default Template Embedding?

Hi all,

We keep having an issue as follows. We have custom document templates in Word 2007. We create documents from these templates and send these subsequent documents out to clients, who modify the document and then send it back to us for further revisions.

The problem is that, of course, when we send out the document the template doesn't go with it and the numbering keeps getting screwed up by the time it comes back to us. It opens on their end with normal.dotm.

When we get it back it opens with normal.dotm here as well and we have to reattach the template and fix the numbering.

Is there any way to "embed" the template into the word document so that it travels with it there and back?

Thanks.

You can send the document and the template to your clients, but note that this shouldn't be necessary. Clients don't need the template in order to use numbering properly, since the number formatting is copied from the template into the document upon creation.

Make sure that you set up numbering properly attached to paragraph styles and ask your clients to apply the appropriate styles whenever they want to change the numbering. See http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...g20072010.html.

The numbering is setup attached to paragraph styles and outline numbering. But it keeps losing the numbering.

Then there is no reason why it shouldn't work, provided that your clients apply numbering properly.

There is one more thing you could check: In the Templates and Add-Ins dialog box, make sure that the "Automatically update document styles" option is cleared.
