Your assertion that the display driver can't be at fault is unfounded and shows a lack of understanding of how Word works. More importantly, though, the lack of a printer driver prevents Word from doing a proper layout. Unless there are issues with the display driver, installing and setting any print driver as the default printer will quite likely resolve the issue. Since you don't have a physical printer, the driver for one of the freeware PDF 'printers' might be your best option.
