Hi all
In the document I'm editing, I was able to convert the bibliography to static text but I can't seem to get rid of the border around it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Julie K. |

Word's Bibliographies don't ordinarily include a border, so yours may have been customized somehow - presumably via paragraph borders. You can access the settings via Home>Paragraph>Border Button Dropdown. Depending on how things have been done, you may need to work through the Borders & Shading dialogue. Make sure you have the entire affected range selected before changing the borders.

Thanks, Paul.
I was able to find the controls for the border but it still appears in the document, though not in the page preview. I also unclicked the boxes for keeping the text together (it's a one-page biblio), so at least it's breaking across the pages. What's odd is that the pop-up for updating the citations and biblio is still visible. (That's the pop-up tab where I can click on the dropdown to convert the entries to static text.) I want the text to be text and nothing more. Here's something else: When I click on the dropdown in the Update Citations tab, I get a 2-page biblio instead of a 1-page. I happen to know that the writer split up this document into two separate articles, and I suspect that the two documents are still linked somehow. Rather than continue to frustrate myself, I've pasted the text into Notepad, deleted the entire biblio box in the document, and repasted the text. Thanks again for your help. Julie |

Without actually seeing the problem document, it's difficult to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Sorry for the delay in responding, Paul. We lost power on Sunday here in the north end of the Seattle area, then I was back at my day job.
The original problem no longer exists, since I found a work-around, but in the interest of contributing to the general body of Word knowledge, I'm attaching a mock-up of how far I got using Word tools. Best, Julie Klein JKlein-Editor.com |

Presumably the border you're referring to is the one that only appears while you have the bibliography selected. That belongs to the bibliography building block and neither displays unless the bibliography is selected nor prints.
The only way of getting rid of that is to delete Word's bibliography building block - and your bibliography with it. You could, of course, insert a bibliography field and your own bibliography heading, eschewing the use of Word's bibliography building block.
