Your document behaves as you describe. I note that the numpages field also changes to the number 2 when you print.

Not sure why this happens nor why it is a problem for you since it will print correctly.

However, if you substitute DOCPROPERTY PAGES for NUMPAGES, the anomaly disappears. You could also lose the *\ MERGEFORMAT from the fields.
