![]() I have a Microsoft Word Document (word 2010) in compatibility mode, and I cannot insert or add a second page to the document. It is formatted with a page border, and a number of text boxes. I cannot get my cursor below the last text box, although I think the border may be the problem. I need to add a second page to the document, and I am unable to do so. Any help greatly appreciated. ![]() |

Are you sure your insertion point isn't in a textbox or, perhaps, a table cell? Do you have Word's formatting display switch on so you can see exactly what kind of object you're working in (you toggle this on/off via the ¶ symbol on the Home tab)?

Is there any kind of "protection" applied to this document as in "do not allow editing except as permitted"
This sounds like a document in which there are content controls listed as exceptions to protection. |

How can I eliminate these content controls. I just opened a blank screen and proceeded to format from there. The paragraph display is on, but I still can't get the cursor out of the last text box. Word will not allow me to insert a page break in the text box, and I cannot get the cursor below the text box.

If so, your normal.dotm file has been messed with. It should never contain text. If so, see Why is my Blank Document not blank? by Suzanne S. Barnhill, MVP You may also need Normal Template in Microsoft Word - How to Find or Open |

I appreciate your help, but I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you're saying.
"Opened a blank screen" = "Created a new document using Ctrl-N or File>New?" Are these instructions for me to follow, or your interpretation of my problem? I had a formatted document, and I wanted to insert a second page at the end of my formatted document, so I could add or copy text from a second document, creating a two page document. But I could not create a second page to my original document. Please see my response to Macropod, which contains a representation of my initial document. Thanks again for any help. |

The problem with your document is that almost all of the content is in a series of textboxes. The only paragraphs that aren't are the two empty ones immediately below the 'CARLUCCI-COHEN “COMEDY” WEDDING' textbox. It's at the second of these that you'd need to insert a manual page break (Ctrl-Enter) to start your second page. If you do this at the first paragraph, all the textboxes lower down on the page move to the second page as well, because they're anchored to that paragraph.

I see what you are saying. But at the end of the Carlucci-Cohen textbox I see only one empty paragraph. However, that is neither here nor there. The bottom line is that, apparently, since the text boxes are anchored, I can't insert a page break in front of them since they will be moved down. But why can't I insert a page break after them. Why isn't it possible to make them a wee bit smaller, place my cursor just after the last text box, and insert my page break there? And, again, thanks for the help.

But I have learned my lesson for the future, in so far as I now know not to use text boxes in such a cavalier manner, since they have other implications on formatting the document. Hoping to hear from you on the last problem of the second page border so we can get on with the wedding. |

Oh dear. A glaring example of why not to use textboxes. I see no advantage to using them here. Bleeeech.

I used them to be able to better position them, but I see now that they could have just as easily have been inserted as regular text.

Publisher, or even PowerPoint probably would work better if you want to use frames like this.
