If the extra large zoom is an issue, make the Word window narrower instead, which is not an issue with a wide screen monitor. You should be able to find a compromise that suits you.

Word 2013 still has the line associated with the tab and the margin setting from the ruler?

The tab selection area is, as you say, smaller, but it works much the same. Far better however to set your tabs in the paragraph styles used in your documents.
