Word 2013 cant delete margin page #'s

I have a 160 page word doc that I put together using artifacts of other word docs (yes 2007 with 2013 (2013 is new text). Can't get the page numbers to be deleted on any page. Need to just reset them all and redo numbering. Tks, Ernie PS...hot job..due to the boss 10AM ET tomorrow (Monday 8/11).
