Default Paste from other programs refuses to drop formatting

In the Option tab's Advanced menu, I have chosen the option to paste "text only" from other programs. Nevertheless, when I paste text copied from programs such as Acrobat or a browser, the text size, font, and other formats are preserved. This is annoying.

This used to work fine and I didn't change any settings just before it stopped functioning. I've tried changing the setting and then reverting, etc. -- nothing works.

Any suggestions?
