I had to split a long chapter into sections in separate files. When I reassemble the whole chapter the endnotes aren't numbered properly. All the endnotes in the pasted sections number "1".

How can I get them to number continuously throughout the assembled document?

I think I figured this out!

1. Turn off track changes in sending and receiving files.
2. Accept all changes in all files.
3. Convert endnotes to footnotes.
4. Copy and paste.
5. Convert footnotes to endnotes.

A google search revealed a lot of inquires about this problem, with a couple of complicated solutions, including macros.
