You have to be a bit more specific on what you are trying to do. Note that if Track Changes are enabled you will have to Accept (or Reject) changes to permanently add (or delete) them.

Thank you Stefen.
More info about the issue. Once Track Change is ON, I selected a character and typed another character.. Now In TrackChange->Review Pane, it shows as a word is deleted and it has been inserted.. Instead of 'char' deleted, it shows as 'word' is deleted.. I hope, u understood.. If not so, inform me. Then I'll post screenshot. |

That's quite normal, as Word typically works at the 'word' level for change-tracking. After all, if you change the 'i' in 'chick' to 'u', you end up with a completely different word - 'chuck'; in this case, one's a noun, the other's a verb.

With Track changes on, I select the first letter of a word and …
Mind you, consider your users and editors: it's not going to be easy to read a text where you have lots of highlighted single-letter corrections. |

But that will still leave you with a whole word replaced via the initial change; and the second one won't be recorded as a discrete change at all unless you save the document between edits.

![]() Quote:
When I presented the two approaches in an unordered list, I assumed this would be read as "follow either step for its own result"; I should have given a better lead-in. So, assuming OP deletes the initial letter and then types in a replacement :-} that would that be tracked/saved, wouldn't it? |

That would be tracked as two separate changes, each accounting for a single character. I don't know that that's an improvement (let the OP decide) as the procedure is more convoluted to implement and leaves you with two changes to accept/reject instead of one.

Convoluted, certainly … also, not comfortable to read. I just had the impression (to be checked just like an assumption) that OP wanted to see just the single-letter change, because he/she said "Instead of 'char' deleted, it shows as 'word' is deleted."
