Since getting my new computer and switching from Word 2003 to 2010, I'm finding that setting up style defaults is a pain in the tush. I'm trying to do the simplest thing: to create a default without the extra line spacing (i.e., 1.15 instead of 1) and font of Times New Roman, 12 pt. But the program won't let me do.
For example: if I go to Home, Change Styles, then to Style Set, and then select Word 2010, it creates the extra line space (1.15) that I don't want. Then, if I switch to a Word 2003 default, it allows the 1.0 line spacing but insists on a font of Calibri 11, pt. One online source -- "10 Word defaults you can customize to work the way YOU want" -- recommends the following: 1) Click the Home tab. 2) Right-click Normal in the Styles Quick gallery and choose Modify. 3) Choose Paragraph from the Format list. 4) In the Spacing section, change the At setting from 1.15 to 1, as shown in Figure A. Click OK. 5) Check the New Documents Based On This Template option. Click OK. I tried that but it made no difference, still producing the 1.15 line spacing. When I try further fiddling by going to paragraph setting, and checking "don't add space between paragraphs of the same style, and clicking "set as default," it makes no difference: it still insists on 1.15 line spacing. Any suggestions? Cheers! |
