Default Date/Time Field Autopopulation Question

I have a word form "Call In Authorization". Currently the form autopopulates the date and time fields. The supervisor fills out the form and then forwards it via email to the guards to process. I do NOT want the form to autopopulate a different date/time when the guards open it. Is this possible? Thanks!

Your form probably has an ordinary Date field. If you're creating the documents from a proper template (ie a .dot(x/m) file), a CREATEDATE field will retain the date & time the document was first saved (or re-saved via Save As); otherwise you might need to use a SAVEDATE field. The problem with the latter is that you may neede to do a print preview to get the field to update but, having done that, Word will prompt you to save the changes when you close the file. Do that and the SAVEDATE changes ...

I ended up using the SaveDate option. It seems to be working great and does exactly what I need it to do. Thanks so much!!

For anyone else who is interested:

In your document:
1. Insert
2. in the Text section on your tab - QuickParts
3. Select Field
4. Scroll down to SaveDate
5. To the right, in the Field properties area, select the format you wish your date/time to use.
6. Click OK

Voila! Success!

In order to change the date/time, you must save the document, then I was able to forward it without having the date/time change again! Yay!
