auto number in word
Hello, I have a word file that produces numbers in the left of each page automatically, but when I want to paste a table to it, a problem with numbers happen and a gap happens between those numbers, I attached before and atfer pasting table, but I really do not know what I can do with numbers to be harmonious and not anchored, Thanks in advance. |

You are using line numbering which counts the table as a single line.
Note that the spacing between numbers for some following lines, while correct numbering, is spaced differently from pre-printed pleading paper. Are you required to line up your lines with line numbers? Are you required to have strict spacing? Your rule lines are in the header. You could put your numbers inside a floating borderless text box there as well. That was how the Word 97 pleading wizard did it, I think. Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 05-26-2012 at 05:19 PM. Reason: changed typo there instead of three |

I could find a template file from office website and it works, but I am interested to know how to defile rule lines in header? Also how can we put the numbers inside a floating borderless text box? I tried to do it but it seems that it does not work. |

You draw them as graphic lines. You set them to float in front of text rather than being in-line with text. (The whole header layer is behind your body text.) Same with the text box. A text box is a graphical element in a separate layer. I also have the text box (drawn inside the header) float rather than wrap or being in-line with text. I group the rule lines together so they can be moved as one unit. You will want, I expect, fixed spacing for your line numbers, to simulate the line numbering on a typewriter. (This is almost as good as August having 31 days to flatter Caesar or the QWERTY keyboard arrangement designed to slow down typing!) Hope this helps. |

Take a look at the Letterhead Textboxes and Styles tutorial for a feel on how to make a borderless text box. I don't use line numbered pleadings and don't have time right now to make something up for you.
I enclose an old template. And yes, the numbers do start over on each page. That is how pleadings I've seen work. You have page numbers and then you have line numbers on the page. |
