Leveling drives me nuts.
I have a finished project of 6 months for four people, and want to instert a task for one specific person. When I insert it and level, instead of just moving the rest (they also have lower priority) 5 days after, my project turns into a mess. Could someone tell me what am I doing wrong? The project I want to insert is the only manually scheduled one, the moment I turn it into auto scheduled and level hell starts. Here is the file. https://1fichier.com/?ao6hdk5w0v Thank you very much. |

You're going to have to give me something more to go on than just attaching a file. When you level are you selecting Priority, Standard? Are the priority numbers a pretty big difference?

Yeah, since the file is the project I assumed that was enough, my bad.
Im selecting Priority, Standard. The numbers go from 1000, which is the task I want to insert, to 500, all in gaps of 50. Its messing with the entire planning though. |

Sorry - again, please try to make it easier for me to help you. Saying your project is "a mess" isn't really telling me anything. Gaps of 50 are really not enough to go on. Please post specifics: you are trying to insert which task IDs - which resource - what do you expect to see - what are you seeing? I know it's all perfectly clear to you - but it is less than clear to me. I can no longer get to your Project file.

Ok, I tried to completely isolate the problem. Ill be using images now instead of links to a project file, I thought that would be easier so you can check my calendars and configuration of the project, but lets go.
So I have this Resource 1, which originally had 2 Tasks. Task 2 depends on Task 1, so everything is easy so far. As you can see, project starts on 16 Jan, and everything is going ok so far. Bad news is, on Jan 30 we get this emergency and that Resource 1 needs to work on that for the whole week. That tas is marked as "Unexpected task", and since this actually happened, I marked it as Manually scheduled for those 5 days. Right now, it overlaps with the expected task for those days, Task 2. ![]() Now, I expect the "Task 2" to move rihgt after "Unexpected task", since its the only available space left. The problem is, when I hit the Level button, I get this. ![]() Project doesnt have a final date, it can go on as long as its needed. What am I doing wrong? Thank you very much. |

Are you allowing for manually entered tasks to be part of the leveling process?
There is a checkbox for this in leveling settings under resources |

I do have the option to level manually scheduled task selected. The only way I can reproduce the error you note is to set the priority of both Task 2 and the "unexpected" task to 1000 - which means do not level. However, it does not throw the error message you see. |

Still feels like you have some other constraints in play.
Are you sure you dont have any dodgy settings under the advanced tab on Task 1 and 2, such as <must end on> or similar? When I use your data in a new project here the leveling behaves as you describe your wet dream would look like. |
