Windows 7 Office 2007 All Updates Current
In Office Word, select "Open", then drill down to folders "My Documents". Icons are displayed, but not file details, i.e. name, date modified, type, and size. At the bottom right of page "All Documents *.*" selected. Same thing in Excel. Under Organize, Layout, the details pane is checked. The curious thing: If I use Windows Explorer, all details show, everything looks normal and I can fire off Word to bring up the file. Its a workaround. Tried to fix using Diagnose in Office, deleted Normal.DOTM, and used regedit to delete the appropriate Office 12 HKEY. All of these were tried to get back to defaults. No goodness. I suspect some breakdown between Windows 7 Explorer and Office. Tried various folder option settings without any luck. Any suggestions welcome. Hate to reinstall, but it may lead to that. Does the same folder display its contents correctly from within Windows Explorer? If not, that suggests a problem with the folder's desktop.ini file. Otherwise, if the problem has only occurred recently, I'd suggest using System Restore to roll your system back to the last restore point before the problem occurred.

I tried System Restore to 11/13/2013, a date before 11/15/2013 when the display was OK. This resulted in two balky restarts, and a Startup Repair cycle getting me back to todays date (11/30/2013). I've noted that there were many Windows 7 and Office 2007 Updates on 11/19/2013. They all installed successfully, but that is also the same date that the file details problem first appeared. Other than the file display problem, Office 2007 is working fine... |

I take it from what you're saying that the System Restore didn't work and its still at a post-11/15/2013 date. Correct? If that is so, I'd suggest a retry, perhaps to an even earlier date. The alternative is to go through all the system updates on and from 11/15/2013, see which one might relate to the issues you're having and, if possible, uninstalling those updates until you find the culprit. Of course, not all updates can be uninstalled ...
