Default Open My Documents No Details Icons Only

Windows 7 Office 2007 All Updates Current

In Office Word, select "Open", then drill down to folders "My Documents". Icons are displayed, but not file details, i.e. name, date modified, type, and size. At the bottom right of page "All Documents *.*" selected. Same thing in Excel.

Under Organize, Layout, the details pane is checked.

The curious thing: If I use Windows Explorer, all details show, everything looks normal and I can fire off Word to bring up the file. Its a workaround.

Tried to fix using Diagnose in Office, deleted Normal.DOTM, and used regedit to delete the appropriate Office 12 HKEY. All of these were tried to get back to defaults. No goodness.

I suspect some breakdown between Windows 7 Explorer and Office. Tried various folder option settings without any luck. Any suggestions welcome. Hate to reinstall, but it may lead to that.
