Default Why do imported styles not change to default font?

I imported a set of list styles from another document. The styles had the default fault in the "from" document (Times New Roman 12).

I assumed that after the import, the styles would have the default font of the "to" document (Arial 11). In fact, the styles remained at Times New Roman 12.

All the imported styles are based on "Normal". In the "to" document, this is Arial 11.

I tried the old Word styles trick of changing the Normal font to any other font, eg Calibri, then changing back to Arial.

All the styles that were based on Normal changed to Calibri, except the newly imported fonts.

When I changed the Normal font back to Arial, again all the styles that were based on Normal changed to Arial, except the newly imported fonts.

I then tried changing the font in the newly imported "List Number" font to Arial 11. Then based "List Number 2" on List Number.

I again assumed that the font in List Number 2 would change to Arial 11, but nothing happened.

Sometimes I think I know absolutely nothing about Word styles
