Change Default Font Word
You can change the Default Font on word to your favorites font, it’s very easy
1. Open Word 2. Click Font Dialog Box | CTR + D 3. Choose your font 4. Click Default on bottom  5. Answer Yes for the message box.   Ahmad - Articel

Simple, so simple I would not have tried it.
I hate trying to get my Normal.doc to suit me, I can never remember the complex routine, & believe MS has done a very poor job of allowing straightforward access to allow change.

You question
Not much that a decent effort at program improvement by MS would not fix.
Do you have a problem with people expresssing their views, even if you need to think about what is being questioned or said? As I said your post was a simple fix & maybe I should have added thankyou. But a better method, if it was easy (which it's not) would be to use the normal.doc Right?
