Default Automate text entry in Word 2007

Is there an easy way to autopopulate some text in a Word document to another section in the same doc. Say for example, I have this in the first sentence: Reference #_____________ . If I type a reference number where it's underlined, could it autopopulate the same Ref # in another area of the same document?

I do know how to do this by using example #2 (on line form) at this website: http://gregmaxey.com/Repeating_Data.htm
but was hoping for something like a macro or inserting an excel object to do this. Although the above sample works well, this form is for someone who isn't that familiar with word and would like something without having to protect the document.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help and time!

Hi jegarner,

The methods suggested in the link pretty much cover what can be done in Word. What is the issue with document protection?

This document is for users that aren't very familiar with Word and since the form has to be protected for the form to autopopulate, this may be an issue with them since they have to edit many other areas of the document.

Is there another protection setting where this autopopulating will work but the rest of the document can still be edited?

Hi jegarner,

If you use Section breaks to delineate the portions of the document that should be editable from those that should not be (eg the bits containing the formfields), your users will still have a fair degree of flexibility, since you can apply forms protection to only the specified Sections of the document.

That should be a bit easier for them. Thanks for the suggestions.
