I have just started using some of the more advanced features of Word in a project to publish a book. I am making extensive use of sections to control headers and footers, page numbers etc.
I initially got things set up pretty much the way I wanted but any tiny change I make to sections completely messes things up. For starters, deleting a section marker is impossible in anything but normal layout because the section markers can't be selected. Next, I see section markers that say they are continuous and that's not want I want them to be. How on earth they got that way is another question because I certainly didn't set any section markers to be continuous. I double click on the section marker to change it to a different type and I see that the dropdown menu in the section dialog says it is Next Page or Even Page even though the section marker says it is continuous. So now I decide to delete the section marker in normal layout view and insert a new one of the right type. Seems like everything worked fine. But then I look at the previous section marker to the one I just inserted and it is now magically changed to be a continuous. Return to the previous paragraph for a continuous loop. Can anyone suggest how to get this 90+ page document with 30+ sections should look like, other than throwing this software out and buying a real word processor. |
