Default Equation Editor "A file error has occured"

This problem occurs in Word 2007 when using equation editor.
Occasionally I will be working on a document containing lots of equations made in equation editor. I decide to save and an error saying "A file error has occured" appears, and the document refuses to save.

This is a very widespread problem. A quick Google search brings up many unresolved threads on different forums, all concerning this issue. e.g.:The following previously suggested "solutions" do not work:
  1. Cutting and pasting the formulas into a new document
  2. Accepting all changes to document in the review tab
  3. Using 'open and repair'
  4. Systematically cutting formulas away and trying to save, in order to find out which formula is causing the problem. (I don't know why this won't work for me)

Hi incblue,

MS is currently working on a 'FixIt' tool for this, pending an update that prevents the problem from occurring in the first place.

That's great news!

Do you have any idea of timescale?

I don't know how soon the 'FixIt' tool will be released, but I understand the SP1 update won't suffer the same problem (and no, I don't know how soon that'll be coming out, either).

Default Still can't save

Hello,
sorry I know this is an oldddd thread, but I'm having this problem now. I've made a word document with maybe 10 equations written with the inbuilt equation editor and it will not save. My friend had the exact same problem last week, and I thought maybe it was an issue with his laptop, but clearly not. I've done a lot of browsing through forums and webpages and cannot find a definitive answer anyway. D'you know how to fix this problem now? (Word 2007)
Thanks in advance

Since this was a pre-SP1 issue, the obvious question is: Do you have SP1 installed? See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936982

Thanks for the reply,
Yes I do have SP1 installed, I'm in the process of downloading SP2 and SP3 now, just trying anything I can really.
Any tips other than trying service packs (I had a skim read through the descriptions of the service packs and did not see any references to equations)? I should know in 20 minutes if they help at all.
Cheers

UPDATE:
Service packs 1, 2 and 3 are all up to date :/
