Windows 11, MS Office 2021.
The printer does not set up correctly for 4x6 postcards, in landscape mode. The HP printer is model Office Jet Pro 9125e. The margins. Set them to something reasonable and MS word says the margins are outside the printable area. Click the fix button and this is displayed: I tried to insert images, but can only upload them without inserting in the text. Those margins are absurd. The entire 4x6 area is printable. All the space on the postcard “CAN” be printed. Left and right margins add up to 2.83 by 4.48 printable area, 12.6 square inches while the postcard is 4 x 6, 24 square inches. Word declares that only a bit more than half the postcard is printable. Do the limits come from the printer or from MS Word? Expand the top margin to 0.5 and print. Below is an image of the postcard. The top margin was not changed other than to cut off the top section of the text. So, the most important part of this complaint: I think that reasonable margins are 0.5 inches all around. Is this possible? My apologies for political content, but I don't want to rewrite everything to ask a question. Thank you for your time and patience. |

The print driver tells Word what paper sizes it can print on and what margins it requires for paper handling.
When Word displays the printable area warning it usually gives you two options, Fix and Ignore. Simply choose ignore to override the warning. If your printer is capable of borderless photo printing then you should be able to set that in Printer Properties before you print. |

I did the ignore part and the result is shown. I did not know about the communications between Word and the printer drive.
Do you mean to state that this is a problem with the printer? I presume so. I will post on an HP site. Thank you. |

No, it is not a problem with the printer.
All print drivers report the minimum margin they require to feed the paper through. You can override this by setting the printer to borderless printing. |

Can you upload a sample document?

The printer (hardware) is different from the printer driver (software).

I started with the last postcard that printed well. Saved it to a new file name with no changes, then edited the text. None of the setups were changed. I have posted the preview of the postcard, fewer lines and characters than the good one. And a picture of the printed postcard. It does not match the preprint view. It is radically different from the exact format printed a week ago or so.
What might I do different? Tried to post, but the form demands a URL. What??? Must I post the image to a website before posting here? That is not good behavior. I saw an earlier post about images and will look for it again. Crum, the document has two images, but only one shows. Got some problems at home and will post a second document soon. Uploaded the second one. Will look at final post and see the result. Yes, it looks good. Thank you for your patience. |

I looked at your documents. They are documents containing pictures of documents.
Just as a mechanic likely cannot tell you what is wrong with your car by looking at a very high-res picture of your car, I can't tell what is going on with your document by looking at a picture. I doubt anyone else can, either. Sometimes a picture will help, but not really with this. Try, instead, posting the actual document that is not correctly printing. Attach a Sample File Demonstrating the Problem - Here's How In an earlier post, I noted some very wide top and right margins for the postcard. Those margins are good for many documents, but with the limited size of a postcard they really limit your content. They might also be what you need to have it print on your printer. |
