1. no longer displaying page number (at bottom next to "Line"). It used to show, but a few months ago it stopped.
2. in Draft mode, not displaying page break that I insert one, so having to keep old Word 1997-2003 doc "compatibility" format. Does Office 2021/2024 fix these 2 bugs? Nb: I tried Office Repair, and also rebooting but didn’t help. |

Right click on the Status Bar and put the page number back on it.
If in Draft view, you press Ctrl+Enter to insert a page break, what do you see? |

-Sorry, I forgot to mention I already tried Status Bar option, and page number is already ticked. When I untick and tick, it doesn't fix the problem.
-In Word 2019 Draft view, if I create or save to the default word doc file, there are no page breaks shown when I insert page break eg using Ctrl-Enter. They are there but invisible. However my old 1997-2003 docs still show page breaks, so I avoid using 2019 format. |

Hi all
As no answers, I will buy Office 2021 or later, and hope 2 bugs in Word 2019 are fixed. |

This is a user-to-user support forum independent of Microsoft.
Screenshots might help. Are you in Print View? How to attach a screenshot in this forum. |

Hi
One bug at a time. I have always preferred Draft Mode for development, and in the past it has always shown the Page Number in Draft Mode... but now it doesn't. See attached photo which shows Page Number ticked in "Customize Status Bar", but there is no page number shown. Even if I turn off page number, and turn it back on. |

Hmm, I seldom use Draft view. On mine (365 ver 2411) it is showing up.
Does it show up in Print View? Does it show up if you start Word in safe mode? Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC - Microsoft Office Merry Christmas!

I note that when I add text in draft view that the page numbers do not change until I shift to Print View and then they seem to be dynamic again.
I am seeing page breaks, automatic and manual, when in draft view. Again, check out safe mode. Merry Christmas!

Safe mode no better for both problems
-Pages numbers show fine in Print Layout... and Print Preview in Draft Mode... but not in normal view of Draft which I prefer. -Re invisible page-breaks in draft mode in 2019, but visible in Print Layout. Invisible in 2019 docx, but visible for 1997 docs, so I prefer to work and save in 1997 format. So it seems MS are phasing out Draft View, because these 2 bugs not fixed. I will just have to get used to inferior Print Layout. One day I will upgrade to Office 2021 or later, and hope bugs fixed. Thanks for your time. |

My setup is Microsoft ffice 365 which is essentially Office 2024.
I am seeing what I've shown. Office 2021 is no longer sold by Microsoft. |

I don't habitually use draft view, but I do use Word 2019, so my curiosity was aroused by this phenomenon. I confirm I was seeing the same page numbering issue, however here at least it was easy to fix by simply switching to print view, then back again to normal view with the document open. You can do it with one click using a simple macro from a quick access toolbar button.
Code:
Sub MyDraft() With ActiveWindow.ActivePane.View .Type = wdPrintView .Type = wdNormalView End With End Sub

Thanks, this quick fudge works ie Draft -> Print -> Draft... restoring page number.
Sorry I don't understand Macros, so I will stick to the fudge |

Do as you wish, by all means.
However, the link that Graham gave you is to his page of Instructions for Installing Macros from Forums or Websites. |

Before I upgrade to Office 2024, could someone confirm if I can still use POP3 in Outlook 2024? In Outlook 2019, I tried to change to IMAP, but had many problems, so I stuck with POP3.

I can confirm that. However be careful.
You need the program Outlook - the desktop application for POP3. You do NOT want the "new" Outlook which is not really ready for public use. See this Woody's Watch article on the "new" Outlook. FREE EDITION: Stopping the migration to Outlook (new) @ AskWoody If you want more information on that, I suggest posting in the Outlook forum rather than the Word forum. https://www.msofficeforums.com/outlook/ |
