Hi everyone,
I do hope this has not been posted before, but I have an issue with the QAT. I just got a new PC today and copied over my old "normal" template so I get all of my Quickparts etc but the QAT now only shows the icon. I've attached a screen snip of how it looks on my laptop (first snip) and a snip of how it looks on the PC (second snip). I've searched and searched for a way to get it back to how it was but no luck. I hope someone can help. Its just easier to use it when I can see without having to hover over for the tool tip. Many many thanks Snip1.png Snip2.PNG |

This is a QAT option in recent versions (seeing the commands).
Try More Commands and check the option to show command labels. Modifying the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) in Microsoft Word |

Hello and thank you for taking the time to reply. For some reason, on my desktop the show/hide command labels is not even there. I've checked my laptop and that has the option. Very odd and I'm really not sure what to do next.

Office 2013?
I do not think this was an option in that version. Is your laptop also 2013 or is it 365? |

Well I hope I did the right (had to search how to check lol). On the laptop, on my account in Word it says Microsoft 365 Apps for Business. I assume the PC says the same but I will check. I'm working off the laptop right now but I'll check asap and if it says anything different, I'll let you know.
Thank you Charles |

Your profile here says Office 2013. If you are using 365 on both, please change it to 2021 (the forum has no setting for 365).

Sorry about that! I kind of took a guess at it. I'm using windows 10 as well so a double error has now been corrected.

My QAT is quite extensive and I was horrified when they came out with the labels. It expanded the QAT beyond usefulness for me.

I wanted to know if anyone was able to find out why the QAT toolbar has changed? I just recently came across this issue with a user of mine. On one of the computers they use, the QAT toolbar shows the command labels just fine but the other pc they use does not and so I have verified that the MS versions are the same which is 16.0.14931.21024 which is odd.

At File > Options > Quick Access Toolbar, clear the option "Always show command labels" (or select the option, if you do want the labels shown).

That is part of the problem as well, I do not have that option, and I do not have the option to turn on the new experience.

Older versions of Word do not have the option to "Always show command labels." These versions shouldn't display the labels, either. However, it happens from time to time that Microsoft updates (temporarily) add features to the wrong version. :-(

Take a look at my article on the "New Experience" on the Microsoft site.
New Experience/Visual Refresh Preview - Microsoft Office - Microsoft 365 - Turning it On and Off You should be able to turn this on, using a registry hack. Read the last few responses to the article. Uncheck the option, then undo the hack (unless you actually want the "new experience). Microsoft will fix this, I am confident. When, though? I do not know. Send feedback to Microsoft.
