Default Quick Access Toolbar Shortcut

On the backstage view, Info, there is a Convert Option, Compatibility Mode

Can you tell me if there is a Quick Access ToolBar shortcut for the Convert Option?

Thanks in advance.

I can't see it there. Looks like you would need to create a macro and add a button to that macro.

I can't find such an option either.

What you can do, although it obviously wouldn't be quite as quick, is the following: Press F12 (or Fn+F12 on some keyboards) to display the Save As dialog box. Choose the current *.docx file format and clear the check box next to "Maintain compatibility with previous versions of Word." Press Enter to confirm.

As a compromise, you could add the Check Accessibility shortcut to the QAT from ‘All Commands’ which gives an option to Convert.

Thanks I don't have the convert button like you. Are you using Microsoft 365?
I'm using 2019

Is there a way to convert all the *.doc to *.docx in file explorer?
Instead of opening each individually.

I'm using 2019.
If you open a blank document (.docx) it won't have the Convert option.
If you open a document that is a .doc (Word 97-2003 Document) it should have the Convert option.
The document needs to have [Compatibility Mode] in the title Bar as in the animation above.

i have many to convert and I would prefer not to open each one and convert, if I can help it.

If I change a *.doc to *.docx in file explorer would it cause an issue in Word?

Give it a try:

Changing the extension doesn't change the file format.
You can change extensions on certain video files, as an example, and they may play, but Word documents aren't video files.
Perhaps one of the 'Macro' guys can suggest a way to convert batches at a time.

I created a macro and it only converts one document only.

I wouldn't know how to create a macro to convert multiple documents.

Indeed, the Accessibility Checker would be another possibility. Note that it will check other things as well, related to accessibility, not just the file format.
