Office 2021: What is the best practice for assigning entries with superscript to a specific style?


For example, in the screenshot below, I tried to assign entries containing superscript to a specific style, but the superscript was not maintained. Is the only option to go back and reapply the superscript?

A style cannot contain multiple conflicting formats. That is what you are asking of this.

Then what could be the best practice? Is it to assign the paragraph to a specific style and then edit the format of some of its entries?

You could combine a couple of Content Controls, on the base number and another the superscripted number. Then save that as either AutoText (or another Building Block) or AutoCorrect. That way, your format would be inserted and you would just need to type in the numbers.


You can use AutoFormat as you type and AutoCorrect for many numbers to produce superscript. I would not do it with "ith" though.
